Etretat (France)

About Etretat

Etretat is a french coastal village located in the Normandie district, famous for the cliffs that surround it and their fantastic shapes. As you will see on the pictures the village is right between two cliffs: “La falaise Amont” and “la falaise Aval”.

Main advantage of Etretat: it is very close to Paris. Of course, this will turn into a major disadvantage around summer time, when the crowd will start to invade the place but in winter the place is peaceful.

Transportation

It took around 3 hours from the train station in Paris (Saint Lazare) to the bus stop in Etretat. We chose to take the train at 6pm on friday so that we could catch a local bus from the train station in Bréauté to Etretat. Here is the precise schedule:

  • Friday: Paris Saint Lazare (5.58pm) to Bréauté (7.45pm) by train (SNCF)
  • Friday: Bréauté (7.55pm) to Etretat (8.25pm) by bus (Les Autocars Gris - 02 35 27 04 25)
  • Sunday: Etretat (6.50pm) to Bréauté (7.25pm) by bus
  • Sunday: Bréauté (7.40pm) to Paris Saint Lazare (9.24pm) by train

Accomodation

You have a lot of options when it comes to accomodation: camping, hotel, guest house. Given the cold weather and the few nights we had to spend there, we chose to sleep in a hotel. “La Résidence” is a wonderful old traditional house. More information can be found on their website.

Budget

All-in-all we could have a rather inexpensive week-end given that we took the train and slept in a hotel. You can of course make it cheaper if you need but you’ll have to share a car and/or sleep in a tent. Restaurants are a bit expensive there so we took most of our meals from the supermarket and had them on top of the cliffs; which was a much nicer option according to me ;)

Budget for 2 travellers for transportation from Paris and accomodation:

  • Train: 80€ (2 tickets x 40€)
  • Bus: 12.80€ (4 tickets x 3.20€)
  • Hotel: 62€ (2 nights x 31€)

Pictures

A selection of photos I took during the week-end can be found in this album and here are four as an appetizer:

J’adoooooore les photos d’Etretat, avec le rappel sur chacune (oupresque) de la falaise, de près ou deloin… J’ai adoré les regarder toutes d’affilée. J’aime bien la “multi-prise” (hihiiii) de la falaise avec le soleil couchant… J’espère que celles de l’Aveyron seront aussi réussies… J’ai hâte !!
